About Jakkalskloof Farm Community
Come for a farmstay, a hands-on encounter on a working farm where a powerful vision of sustainable living is becoming reality. Ramble across the fields, milk the cows, explore the bee hives or swim in the dam. Or if you're feeling energetic, hike the mountains in the adjoining Marloth Nature Reserve or take your mountain bike into the wild.
A range of accommodation is available: from a rustic cabin in an isolated kloof (ideal for the artist needing a solitary retreat) to family-oriented self-catering accommodation, from conference space for small workshops to a well appointed camping site for groups of up to 40.
Once an open piece of land adjacent to the Marloth Nature Reserve, this farm has been developed over the last five years into an example of self-sufficient livelihood for the people living and working there. Off the grid, Jakkalskloof Farm generates its own power using wind and solar energy and recycles some of its water.
A two-year internationally recognised diploma in organic and biodynamic farming is offered at Jakkalskloof. Various short courses on sustainable issues are run from time to time. We uphold the principles of agroecology in the planning and management, where we work with nature's cycles.
School holiday camps offer children an encounter with good old fashioned farming. Hosts Garth and Sharon enjoy sitting with guests over an evening campfire, cooking food from the farm and sharing good stories of the good earth.
An ensuite bedroom with shared kitchen and verandah, two double rooms with communal bathrooms, an isolated log cabin (ideal writer's get away) and camping facilities.
