Oxwagon Lodge

Oxwagon Lodge is a specialty cultural/historical lodge with 6 original restored Oxwagons as the main accommodation. It is one of the most unusual venues in South Africa.

The Lodge is 3-star graded by TGCSA. The Oxwagons are 100-years old (on average) and are fully-restored and highly authentic. When staying at Oxwagon Lodge, guests can experience sleeping inside one of the legendary cultural icons of South Africa. It is different and fun. Nevertheless, we provide some modern comforts such as comfortable double and single beds, private ensuite bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilets. We even have electricity. And we also have free uncapped Wi-Fi available throughout the venue, including in each Oxwagon. Wow! Can you believe it? Checking your email in an Oxwagon!

Tea and coffee is supplied in each Oxwagon. However, please note that the Oxwagons do not have TV or air-conditioning. Well, except for the "flow-through Voortrekker kind of air-conditioning" of the pioneers.

Distances and travel times from Johannesburg and Pretoria are comfortable, less than 1 hour on the road. The location of the Lodge is actually only 30kms from central Pretoria and about 40kms from the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.

One can consider Oxwagon Lodge to be half-way to Pilanesburg National Park and Sun City. in fact, the Lodge can be a useful and interesting stop-off point for tours to Pilanesberg / Sun City. Why not stop for a tour of the Oxwagons and combine the stop with lunch?

Another thing - Oxwagon Lodge is only an hour from ORT Internatonal Airport (and only 20 minutes from Lanseria Airport.) Small tour groups of up to 6 couples can, on arrival in South Africa for example, stay the first night of their tour at Oxwagon Lodge for an exciting and uniquely different experience. We normally provide a typical old-fashioned South African "braai" evening meal with all the accompaniments, and guests can enjoy the camp fire and a glass of Amarula or a tot of "mampoer", which must beat a conventional hotel experience as a uniquely warm welcome to South Africa.

Another important feature is that the Lodge does not charge for accommodation of drivers and guides. Drivers and guides only need to pay for food and beverages. As well, we offer excellent STO rates to tour operators and agents, for bookings made any night Sunday - Thursday. Sorry, no discounts are available on Friday or Saturday evenings.

Then also note that guests can enjoy our brilliant views and sunsets, The Lodge is located high up on the Witerwatersberg Mountain range with views across Hartbeespoort Dam and the valley below, to the Magaliesberg Mountains on the other side. Finally, in the morning we serve an excellent Champagne Breakfast, just to celebrate Life and conclude the stay in style!
