About Karoo Hippo Conservancy
Between Colesberg and Hanover is the Karoo Gariep conservancy (10 000 acres). We are 8 kilometers off the N1 freeway, making us the ideal halfway stop between Cape Town and Johannesburg. We are also halfway between Upington (Kalahari) and PE (Garden Route), making us the ideal South African halfway stop.
We place a high value on nature and the great outdoors. You can use us as a base to explore the central Karoo; we have the Sea Caw Vally Meander, a gravel road that connects New Bethesda to Hanover and Colesberg. These roads are ideal for exploring by both car or mountain bike activity. Tourist-friendly establishments are identified and collaborate in a cooperative effort.
Early morning birding excursions, horseback riding, stargazing from our star deck, hippo sundowner drives, Koi etchings, mountain bike routes, and more are among our activities.
On the conservancy, there are three lodges to choose from. Mieliefontein, with Elma, New Holme, with PC and Marisca, or our self-catering lodge Wolmado (managed by Elma)
We provide exceptional service and three-course meals with karoo cuisine at an additional charge.. The meals are a special experience that is highly recommended.
We suggest staying for 2 to 3 nights to get the most out of our magnificent Karoo.
