About Mugie Lodge
Mugie offers its guests an unique opportunity to live their own African dream: participating in ranch life and vital conservation work, watching ancient Pokot ceremonies, tracking lions or simply watching African wildlife from the comfort of your 4x4 vehicle.
Mugie Lodge is a spectacularly refined retreat in one of Africa’s last great wilderness areas – the privately owned 49,000 acre Mugie Wildlife Conservancy in Laikipia. Described by a visitor as "Heaven on a Hill" this magnificent family-owned house boasts a lavish sitting room, high ceilinged verandas and a large dining room situated in a prime viewing area for the waterhole below where day and night the interaction of wildlife present a wonderful spectacle. A short walk through the impeccable gardens takes you to a cliff-top swimming pool and bar with stunning views.
Mugie was established by the Hahn family who have been committed to Africa’s wildlife and people for over forty years. Mugie has preserved and increased its population of critically endangered Black rhino and Jackson’s hartebeest. Through their preservation of the delicate ecosystem, the sanctuary has boosted populations of all five of the big five, plus over 70 species of mammal including cheetah, Grevy’s zebra, oryx, giraffe, Cape buffalo, eland, as well as nearly 300 unique bird species.
Mugie Lodge has 6 spacious luxury cottages, each with its own fire place, built to take full advantage of the spectacular views. This gracious manor house boasts historical furnishings, high ceilinged patios and a large dining room, where arguably Kenya’s finest cuisine is served.
Mugie is a vital part of the local economy by providing employment, schooling and medical care to the surrounding tribes.
