Robert’s Mobile Camp (Alia Bay)

Lake Turkana, Kenya

About Robert’s Mobile Camp (Alia Bay)

Lake Turkana, also known as the Jade Sea, is the world’s largest permanent desert lake. The area is wild in character, with its parched volcanic beaches, granite outcrops and remoteness.

Alia Bay is also on the east side of the Lake but further to the north, within Sibiloi National Park. The lakeshore here is an important refuge for populations of the increasingly threatened soft-shelled turtle, and serves as a vital breeding ground for crocodiles, many different fish species and water birds.

Activities at the lake include: Fishing, and (with a helicopter) visiting fascinating rock art sites, searching for semi-precious stones and exploring Koobi Fora, the cradle of mankind, to see the world-famous fossil sites.

The mobile camp is practical whilst at the same time being extremely comfortable. The large bedroom tents are specially designed for hot weather use, with sides that roll up to allow breezes to flow through. Each tent is fully furnished, with comfortable beds and Egyptian cotton linen, and an en-suite bucket shower and flush loo. The mess tent is spacious and perfect for dining and relaxing. Solar power allows for chilled drinks (essential in this hot climate) and charging electronic gadgets. The camp is fully staffed and delicious meals (to the clients specifications) are organised by the specialist mobile camp caterer.
