Welcome to West Lunga National Park
Situated in the northeastern part of Zambia, West Lunga National Park is known for its wonderful variety of natural scenery and animals. The park is the source of the famous Zambezi River, creating numerous rapids, stunning waterfalls, limestone caves, underground rivers, hot springs, the Kabompo Gorge, and a sunken lake. Visitors can spot yellow-backed duiker, wild dog, buffalo, crocodile, elephant and the many other species which live in the park. The Kabombo River, the deepest in Africa, and Lunga River, with its crystal clear water, border the park and offer excellent opportunities for canoeing and fishing. The almost impenetrable vegetation creates a wonderland of birds, and is home to half-collared kingfishers, African fin foots, Zambia’s turacos (Schawlow’s and Lady Ross’s), African Kingfishers and the famous white-chested tinkerbird, amongst the many more common species.
