Mwinilunga

Set on the banks of the West Lunga River, in Zambia’s North-Western Province, the town of Mwinilunga is a perfect destination for nature lovers. The neighbouring Nchila Rainforest Wildlife Reserve offers wonderful swimming, hiking, and guided walking opportunities, and is inhabited by large mammals, including rare antelope, sables, zebra, warthog, eland, and more. These animals roam through land which was, until recently, virgin savannah territory. A huge number of birds can also be spotted, including blue-breasted kingfishers, orange-tufted sunbirds, and others. Soak in the unique culture of the area by visiting over September, when you’ll be able to witness the annual Chisemwa cha Lunda ceremony. This important event is conducted by the senior chief of the tribe and involves traditional music and dancing.
