Welcome to Muchinga Province

Located in northeastern Zambia, Muchinga Province is a largely rural region that includes part of the Luangwa River valley and shares a border with Tanzania. The area's varied terrain includes high plateaus, winding river valleys, and dense miombo woodlands, with cooler temperatures due to its elevated landscape. Several major rivers, including the Luangwa and Chambeshi, flow through the area, supporting small-scale farming and diverse wildlife habitats. The government officially created the province in 2011, establishing Chinsali as its administrative centre. Historical ties to the influential Bemba kingdom and Zambia's independence movement are reflected in local heritage sites. Visitors can explore scenic waterfalls like Chipoma Falls, hike through remote sections of North Luangwa National Park, relax at Kapishya Hot Springs, visit nearby game reserves, and discover the unique ecosystem of the Bangweulu Wetlands. During the rainy season, the vegetation becomes lush and green, while the dry season is ideal for game viewing and visiting vibrant markets.
