Full of humour and true humanity, Crimes of the Heart revolves around three very different sisters and their troubled family life.
Set in Mississippi, the play opens with the sisters - Lenny, Meg and Babe - returning to their family home. During the course of the production, they unearth grudges, criticise each other, reminisce about their childhood and attempt to come to terms with their mother''s suicide so many years ago.
Henley''s play is widely appreciated for its compassionate look at good country people whose lives have gone wrong. Brought to the stage by well-known Masque Theatre actress (seen in A Handful of Friends and The Hollow last year) and first-time director Jenny Brandt, this production promises to be thoroughly entertaining and gripping.
Written in 1978, Crimes of the Heart was co-winner of the Great American Play Contest of the Actor''s Theatre of Louisville. It then went on to win numerous awards, including the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in 1981.
Presented by Claremont Dramatic Society, this production will showcase the usual high standards in performance and set that the society is known for. Featuring Jana Botha (who was seen last year as glamorous Veronica in The Hollow and the nosy Mrs Chatham in Flat Spin, a role for which she was nominated for a Cape Amateur Theatre Award) and Liz Roodt (director of last year''s hit The Hollow and also seen on stage as Amanda in Private Lives). And introducing Michaela O''Toole, Ashleigh van der Hoven, Trad Nogueira-Godsey and Matthew Roy.
