I was lucky in the end.
As predicted, the whole computicket website hit a go slow the moment ticket sales went live at 09h00 on Saturday morning, but I got through to the hotline after just 6 attempts and was on hold for less than 5 minutes before getting through to a very friendly and polite Computicket consultant.
The next hiccup was when my Standard Bank credit card (which did have more than enough available funds) was declined - on both straight and budget. I nearly had a heart attack thinking after getting through I was going to end up without tickets but then remembered my standby credit card which worked right away. Phew!

- If you are still hoping to get your hands on some U2 tickets and are prepared to pay, go to Computicket.
