Table Mountain has enjoyed worldwide attention with the New7Wonders of Nature contest (more on that here )- now it''s time for the cableway''s annual nip & tuck.
Table Mountain Cableway has extended its maintenance period from three to four weeks and will be closed from Monday July 20 until Sunday August 16.
Table Mountain Cableway is required to do annual maintenance to meet the highest global cableway standards set by the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways (BAV). The 2009 maintenance plan includes the re-positioning of both cable cars’ track ropes. Four Swiss specialised rope workers will fly in to assist the Cableway’s operational team with this highly technical aspect of the annual maintenance. The main electric motor will also undergo its routine service; and both cars will be re-sprayed in preparation for the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup.
“Incredibly, this is our busiest time of the year as we have teams working hard to ensure that we are fully prepared for another busy summer season. The maintenance period is longer this year as we want to remain operational during the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup,”
Sabine Lehmann, CEO of Table Mountain Cableway.
Visitors can take advantage of the specials that are on offer both before and after the closure of the Cableway. These include a free return ticket to adults on their birthday on presentation of a South African ID; and the Cableway family winter special that offers two children under 18 years a free return trip if they are accompanied by a full paying adult (valid over weekends and public holidays until September 15, 2009).
Should your birthday fall within our closure you may redeem this offer either one week before (July 13 – 19) or one week after (August 17 – 23) annual maintenance.
The Cableway operates weather permitting. For information call (021) 424 8181 or visit www.tablemountain.net
