The Karoo town of Sutherland, best known as the location of the South African Large Telescope (S.A.L.T) saw the unofficial opening of a new community centre on 28 March 2012.

Providing 26 internet connected computers, the centre is to be a place for children to come and do their homework, with a play area for little ones.
It is hoped this initiative will assist residents of Sutherland to uplift themselves. Sutherland has an 87% illiteracy rate and the dream is for centres like this can make a dent in that number.
