Steamed up over Cullinan!
Treat your family to a nostalgic summer''s day trip on a vintage steam train.

Join Friends of The Rail on their next trip to Cullinan on the 26th of February

Relive the romance of old-time railway travel and experience a fabulous day out in the historic diamond village of Cullinan. Take lunch at one of the several quaint cafe-restaurants in the avenues or "bring your own" and make use of the braai fires that are provided for free.

Cullinan, located about 48 km east of Pretoria by rail, is a delightful village born out of the discovery of a rich diamond deposit there in the early 1900s. The village was named after the prominent local land-owner and mining company''s chairman, Thomas Cullinan. By 1905, when the world''s largest rough diamond was found, the Premier Diamond Mine was one of the richest mines in the country. A tree-lined avenue of sandstone miners'' cottages and houses was bullt, leading up to the mine. The fast-growing village was connected to the NZASM''s Pretoria to Delagoa Bay railway at Rayton by an 11 km branch line running through the hills down into a bustling little station and on to Zonderwater.

The next trip to Cullinan is on the 26th of February, so head on over to their website here for more information and booking details.
