South African Women''s Open comes to Southbroom
Liz Page of Coral Tree Colony Bed & Breakfast tells us about the growing anticipation in Southbroom, KZN, as they gear up for the SA Women''s Open Golf Tournament starting tomorrow.

Our little village of Southbroom is abuzz.  Roads have been closed off.  Potholes (some) have been repaired.  Marquees and Tents have sprouted.  We’re hosting the South African Women’s Open Golf Tournament from Thursday 19th to Sunday 21st April.  For those who seldom go north of the Grape Curtain – Southbroom is tucked away on the Lower South Coast of KZN.

India''s Sharmila Nicollet has generated plenty of interest inSouth Africa. (Pic via Facebook)

As mentioned on the official tournament website – “As an integral part of of the Southbroom village, the golf course is a rare South African layout and if it wasn’t for the palm trees and tropical foliage, you’d think you were in Britain or Ireland.”  The course wanders through the village, or maybe the village wanders around the course.  This is not a gated community, but with a very strong Ratepayers Association and an equally strong Conservancy Committee much of the natural heritage has survived.

Our guests here at Coral Tree Colony Bed & Breakfast have a grandstand view of the competition.  Our verandahs overlook the 12th Green and 13th Tee, with views down the Fairways to the sea.

Southbroom Golf Course has received a number of accolades over the years, most recently it was voted the Most Fun Course in South Africa.  Dale Hayes voted our Course as the 8th of 10 Top Jewels of South Africa and Golf Digest rates Southbroom as 77th out of 100 Top Courses in the country.  With all that praise – we wish the organisers a fantastic event, players – good weather and spectators – exciting golf.
