SA''s Zero Emission Joule Goes on Show in March
An exciting update on the locally designed Joule.

WE have reported on the exciting development of our own homegrown electric car the Joule previously on the Portfolio Travel Blog here and here.

Now the long awaited eco-friendly vehicle is gearing up for its first public appearance.

In March of this year, the plug-in, zero-emission Joule will make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland – a premium automotive industry event in Europe.

The Joule is due to go on sale internationally in 2013, but South Africans will be able to see the ultra-green car driving on our roads later this year when a fleet will be launched for technical feedback and public reaction.

As previously reported, the Joule concept was designed by South African Keith Helfet and born at Optimal Energy in Cape Town. CEO of that company, Kobus Meiring, told the press

“We’re extremely excited about Joule being displayed at Geneva. The EV (electric vehicle) market is expected to grow exponentially over the next decades, and owning an EV brand will increase South Africa’s role substantially. It is Optimal Energy’s vision to lead the EV industry in South Africa and to expand globally, and as a flexible company with no legacy investments in outdated technologies, we have the opportunity to position Joule uniquely in an awakening market.”
