The Know Your Parks campaign is running from Monday to Friday all this week.
You will need to have valid SA id documentation in order to use this wonderful opportunity for locals to be tourists in our own big back yards! Those under 16 will not need to provide ID.
The timing, in Tourism Month and close to Heritage Day, is perfect for all of us who are blessed to live in South Africa to take pride in our natural heritage and explore the many open spaces we have close at hand.
A spokesperson for SANParks told media:
"SANParks embarked on this campaign (in 2006) to encourage all South Africans, especially those from the communities around the parks, to share in what we envision to be the pride and joy of all South Africans and the world."
"Environmental education and protection is the responsibility of everyone, not just a privileged few. If we are to create a sense of ownership of the natural heritage of South Africa in all South Africans, then all South Africans must be able to have access to such," he added.
Please note:
- Free access does not include any commercial activities in the parks, such as guided safaris or walks.
-
Boulders in the Table Mountain National Park, and Tankwa Karoo and Namaqua national parks are NOT participating in this offer.
