The White Lion including the split lioness with cubs, have been seen frequently this past week. What amazed some guests, who were lucky enough to witness it, was the White Lioness fighting with one of the split lioness, after having groomed the male. Following a period, were both white lion were seen mating, the bond between these two individuals has certainly strengthened. For the split Lionesses this is an invasion of space within their territory, since the White Lionesses introduction in October 2009. Their behaviour is continually noted, and whether these habits change, only time will tell.

The reserve received a most welcomed 13mm of rain last week, though was followed by a cold spell, resulting in the plains of the reserve being covered in frost which has not be noted for years. These phenomena though have not stop the felling of spring being in the air, as Cape Weavers prepare their individual nesting sights for the coming breeding season. This is evident amongst the Sunbirds as well, as they busily go about displaying their individual territories.

The mega-herbivores, though with specific reference to the Buffalo are providing guests with memorable sightings. Two buffalo were noted in a wallow on the reserve, and seemed to enjoy the fact that they were free to do as they liked, as can be seen from a series of photographs provided.

The family herd of Elephant have been utilizing the entire extent of the reserve, closely followed by the mature bulls, as weather conditions have continually changed, from warm to cold. This noted movement pattern is purely a means of gaining access to areas with shelter and areas which are sought after for food.
