Portfolio''s Recycled Paper Bricks Keep our Homefires Burning
Portfolio''s fireplace is roaring on this cold winter day, and we''re making use of recycled hand made bricks made in-house by our own staff member, London.

London Jujuse takes care of the gardens at Portfolio Collection’s Newlands office. He is also our official “green” brick” maker.

London first shreds all our waste paper...

He mushes the shredded paper into a pulp with water and a tiny splash of bleach to soften it, then uses a brick making gadget to transform it into bricks for household and braai fires.

We use them in the boardroom fireplace each winter. Some staff members also take home bricks for braais and home fires.

London’s creative streak comes out when he uses left-over paper pulp to create little creatures which grace our board-room mantelpiece.

He''s recently been inspired to make 2010 World Cup related items.

When I asked London if he would be supporting Bafana Bafana or England in the World Cup (being named London and all) he replied "Spain. And maybe Bafana". We might need to re-christen him Barcelona if Spain wins the event!

What measure are your offices taking to safe energy this winter? We''d love to hear from you.
