Heidi (Publications & Client Liaison) galvanised us into action with her idea to do something for The Haven Night Shelter in Kalk Bay.

Some of the team made up sandwhiches at work this morning while the rest of us got our families involved and made up the batches of sarmies at home last night, then brought them in to the offfice this morning along with bags of fresh fruit.

At around 10:30, Heidi (and her baby bump), Raze (Business Developer) and Joy (Online Marketing) headed for Kalk Bay. We were welcomed by another Heidi - manager at The Haven - and a group of the boarders and a sleepy kitty cat.

Everyone apart from the cat was happy to gather round for a quick pre-lunch photo.

On the way back to the car, we encountered a man warming himself by a fire - Raze stopped off to hand him a spare sandwhich.

Heidi said that her little girl Mia was inspired to do this on a regular basis, so some of us are going to ask The Haven if this would be helpful for them.

Sometimes a small gesture might not make a world of difference, but the heart of at least one child was opened through this experience to try reach out and help those less fortunate - and isn''t that what Mandela Day is really all about.
