Knysna Top 10
There are many sights to see and experiences to enjoy in Knysna, that picturesque coastal town on the Garden Route. Herewith, Portfolio’s Top 10 things to do in Knysna.

But before we get to that....

Proving the versatility of both the place and the residents, Portfolio’s Knysna-based assessor Wendy sent in these images – she takes her furry friend "Cubby" out on the Lagoon regularly.

Note the purr-fectly sized kitty life jacket.

Who says cats don''t like water?

Cute huh?

Now back to that that Knysna Top 10 List we promised...

1.  Be captain of your own holiday! Charter a houseboat from Lightley''s Holiday Houseboats and enjoy a holiday with a difference. Their fully equipped, 4- or 6-berth self-drive houseboats are easy to pilot (and you''ll be given a lesson to get you going). Catered or self-catered, you’ll be free to explore the safe, tranquil waters of Knysna’s Lagoon.

2. Enjoy living on the edge? Risk life and limb for a really special picnic spot: Ask locals for directions to Coney Glen, a gorgeous, sheltered cove near the Knysna Heads with a shady, grassed picnic site. Braai (BBQ) snorkel in the rock pools and play on the sandy beach.

3. Get aphrodisiac’d - eat oysters. The town is so famous for these slippery suckers they have their own Oyster Festival each year!

4. Run! (in the forest) Run! Participate in the Knysna marathon around the same time as the above mentioned festival. Contact these chaps for more info.

5. Go fish. Conditions in Knysna are ideal for this popular pastime, whether you fish in the lagoon or off the rocks on the coast. You’ll need to buy a fishing permit at the Knysna Post Office.

6. Love Pachyderms? You could go elephant-spotting in the hope to see one of (or the only?) remaining Knysna elephant/s. Or head to the Knysna Elephant Park and hand-feed a baby elephant. The park is situated off the N2, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.

7.  Support local micro-breweries. Mitchell’s holds beer tastings in Knysna Monday to Saturday. Call 044-382-4685 to book.

8. Twitchers Unite! Knysna is a birder’s paradise with its variety of habitats. The Woodbourne Marsh and wetlands around the lagoon are especially bird-rich.

9. Birds leave you cold? How about tree-spotting? Unlike birding your subjects can’t fly away! In the Knysna Forest you’ll note ‘Big Tree’ signs which take you on a wooded walkway. Take a tree guide along, or go on a guided forest walk.

10. Make like Tom and Cruise. Take a Knysna sunset cruise along the lagoon or out through the Knysna Heads, enhanced with a glass of bubbly or even a turn at the helm.

What a lovely picture of Wendy and Cubby, I heard she spends most of her spare time on the lagoon. We would like to wish everybody a happy & prosperous Christmas we are the lucky bunch that close for a family holiday and are very lucky not to have to shop this time of the year. The best for the new year everyone.

Why thank you kindly for giving me the honour of providing a photo for this post :)! I must say the weather was very conducive to good pictures :). Good blog post about Knysna by the way, while we were there we thoroughly enjoyed the stay, even though we were just passing through. Cheers!
