Guests staying at Isandlwana Lodge on 24 December can participate in the Christmas Candy Run.
The lodge started this heart-warming tradition in 2002, where staff and interested guests deliver sweets on Christmas morning to the children at the local village.
It has been described by many as the highlight of their stay at Isandlwana, with guests commenting that “this is what Christmas is all about,”; “What a joy to see the happiness on the children’s faces,” and “The experience blessed me more than it did the children.”
The ‘run’ is conducted in vehicles as there are many homesteads to visit. The lodge provides the sweets but guests are welcome to contribute and bring along a few of their favourites.

Travel from the fast pace and stress of urban living to the peace and tranquillity of Isandlwana Lodge, an impressive building carved into the side of the Nyoni Rock. This is the mountain on which Ntshingwayo, King Cetshwayo’s Senior General, stood to observe the Zulu warriors rendering one of the greatest defeats the British Army ever experienced in the colonies at Isandlwana on the 22nd of January 1879.
