Battles re-lived
Only at Isandlwana Lodge, in South Africa’s Zululand Battlefields, can you re-visit the site of the British Army’s most famous battle – Isandlwana, where the Zulus defeated the mighty British on 22 January 1879. Resident historian, Rob Gerrard, Author, FRGS and retired British Army Officer, will recount these dramatic events after breakfast from one of the vantage points at the lodge overlooking the famous and iconic Isandlwana Hill, after which you will tour the sites of the Battles at Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift. Rob’s vivid and heartfelt exposition of every strategic and tactical aspect of the campaign is sure to touch the emotions at all levels.

Night sky
If the skies are clear on the evening of 26 September, Mars, Saturn and Mercury will be visible in the west after sunset, and Saturn’s rings will be visible in all their splendour. At sundown, astronomer Terry Leaver will guide you through the evening stars, and explain how our planet, solar system and galaxy all fit into the greater cosmos. Upon nightfall, Terry will point out constellations, clusters and planets while expounding the human experience with the heavens since the inception of humanity. For the very enthusiastic guests, Terry will continue before dawn to complete viewing the balance of the Zodiacal Constellations not seen the evening before.
