A true spectacle to behold, this festival is a great day out for the whole family (yes it’s pram friendly too) with the most incredible kiting creations soaring in flocks overhead. The largest and most colourful kites vie for attention while kite fighting, kite tricks and kite racing events capturing the imagination of the gapers on the ground.

Cape Town welcomes kiters from around the world (USA, UK, Germany etc) who help make this a truly international event that all communities can enjoy – at just R5 for kids and R10 for adults it is affordable for most.
This year the event falls on Cape Mental Health Day and the theme is therefore appropriately ‘World on a String: Celebrating World Mental Health Day’. Proceeds will go to Cape Mental Health, who is organizing the event in association with local radio station Heart 104.9 FM.
An expected 20,000 visitors will enjoy the 2-day event, the 15th of its kind to be held here. Bring your own kites, or buy from one of the stands on the day. You can also make a kite at one of the fun workshops that will be running.
In addition to the kite-related festivities, expect kiddies’ entertainment by way of funfair rides and giant inflatables, a craft market and plenty of food stalls.
