Bird on a wire... birder''s paradise found at Kilmorna Manor in Mpumalanga
Portfolio’s Creative Director James Delaney recently stayed at the “wildly eccentric and charming” Kilmorna Manor in Mpumalanga...

He says:

“The great thing about staying in a vast Tudor mansion in a rainforest at the top of a mountain in Mpumalanga is that this offers the world''s easiest birding. I sat outside my room one morning and 3 species of woodpecker were hammering in the tree trunks around (Golden Tailed, Bearded and Olive).

Situated on the cusp of both the Highveld & Lowveld, Kilmorna is ideally located for spotting a vast number of species. Oriels and other wonderful birds just fly around the treetops overhead, while in the background I could hear the strains of Pavarotti (from the drawing room) while eating fresh pastries from a silver tray, the valley stretching out below."

Highlight for birders – there’s a good chance you’ll see the usually rarely spotted Narina Trogon which regularly perches on their washing line…Laura-ann (the owner) complains that they she has to chase this magnificent bird off when she wants to hang up her laundry!”
