For R4 500 a year you get to tend your own vine and make your own barrel (±270 bottles!) of Shiraz. You are encouraged (with guidance from De Clercq) to make your own decisions as to the nurturing of the grapes which are grown in as eco-friendly a manner as possible.

It''s all about choice from start to finish: when to harvest (remember: the riper the grape the higher the sugar content which makes for higher alcohol levels…); when to add yeast and tannin, when to press and bottle. And, of course, you get to design your own label. After that, it''s over to you and your friends to enjoy when and where you want.
The most important ingredients, however, are a sense of adventure and fun. After all, that is what Kingsriver Wine Estate is all about.
Although it is purely at your discretion how involved you wish to become, we would need to charge you R350 for admin fee for any activity you won’t be able to attend. August marks the start of the winemaking process with the pruning of the vines on the Estate but we can still set aside time for new vine ''adoptive parents'' to get to know their new ''babies'' and how to treat them as well as meet your fellow members of our exclusive Vine Club, which encourages you to harvest and stomp your own grapes, and join in the other various events, all in the company of fellow wine lovers.

You will also learn about the various decisions that you have to make regarding your wine after harvest. Your vine will produce a full barrel of Shiraz – this amount to about 300 bottles, but with spillage and wastage you can count on netting 270 bottles. Please note that the bottles, corks and casings are additional to the cost of R4500 for the vine. I have explored these current costs and have concluded that the best way of going about this would be to ''piggy-back'' with us when we bottle. This will equate to approximately R28 per bottle, including bottles, corks, and wax casings. Additional costs to you would be the label, which can cost you anything from 5c to R50, depending on how fancy you wish to get with this. I can recommend very good designers if this is the route you wish to take, but you only need to consider these additional costs after a harvest year. Your wine will sit in barrel for at least a year and be ready for bottling in February the following year.
You may even choose to stay in our beautiful 4* guesthouse.

PLEASE NOTE that the wine that you make is meant for private enjoyment and not for sale on the open market.
