Bay Harbour Market in Hout Bay
Our blog editor visited the indoor market in Hout Bay near the harbour last summer and has been back many times since. She blogged her first experience...

The Bay Harbour Market is a FAB experience with a large craft section and an equally well sized food section and you really can spend a couple hours here on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday quite happily if markets are your thing.

Inside the Craft Market

It was a stinking hot day on Sunday and we sat in a fair bit of traffic trying to get in to the Hout Bay harbour car park which was not too pleasant - but once we arrived (don''t muddle it up with the original outdoor harbour market - you need to drive all the way to the very end of the harbour past Snoekies) we were pleasantly surprised to enter the cool shady interior and were greeted on all sides by friendly - but not pushy - stall holders.

Seafood Braai

I''ve been to quite a few markets lately and what I really enjoyed here was the number of new and interesting wares on sale - not the same old same old you tend to find time and again at other markets. Clothing, crafts, jewellry, body and beauty products, unique home decor items, leather goods - stall after stall had us ooh-ing and aah-ing over the many gorgeous things on display. The lay out is also attractive and not too crowded.

Then we got to the food court area. There were tables laden with delicious smelling savoury and sweet foods, healthy fresh fruit juice stands, cakes and cookies, and out the back a seafood braai lured us with its tantalizing aroma.

So delicious!

Between us we enjoyed a large breakfast burrito, a lamb and feta ciabatta and braaied snoek served with sweet potato hot chips, and to drink we enjoyed lemon and apple juice, coffee and craft beer, all ended off with chocolate brownies. Yum!

Food stalls cooking up a storm

We sat at the communal tables near the seafood braai making friends with other diners - there was plenty of seating and we didn''t have to wait long for a seat.

Dr Juice - healthy and yummy!

Then well satisfied we headed back to browse and shop at the many stalls we hadn''t yet seen.

By the time we left we were all eager to return again very soon.

About the market

Bay Harbour is situated on the water''s edge in the old authentic part of the Hout Bay Harbour and comprises more than 100 stalls in an old fish factory, including external tented alleys and courtyards.
