Afrika Burn 2012
If you know anyone who''s heading to AfrikaBurn this year, you''ll know it''s countdown time to this unique event in the desert.

South Africa''s version of Burning Man, AfrikaBurn is "is the spectacular result of the creative expression of participants who gather once a year in the Tankwa Karoo to create a temporary city of art, theme camps, costume, music and performance" - according to http://www.afrikaburn.com/.

This year the event takes place from 25 - 30 April and the theme for 2012 is MIRAGE. Party-goers will be interpreting this theme in many magical and spectacular ways  creating a theme camp, building an artpiece or ''mutant'' vehicle for the sheer fun of participating in the creation of ''the wild tapestry of Tankwa Town''.

A key aspect of AfrikaBurn is that money is not used in the temporary town, instead revellers all bring something to contribute to the greater good of the community.

A highlight is the night of The Burn when specifically made burning art is set alight to spectacular effect.

To get you in the mood, or for a taste of what those of us left behind will be missing, read Jolene''s report back from 2009, then enjoy the following mini film from South African fim maker Terry Westby-Nunn , from a previous AfrikaBurn.
