5 ways to entertain yourself in Dullstroom
The Mpumalanga hamlet of Dullstroom is quiet, serene and the perfect place to get away for a weekend if you live in Johannesburg. Other than taking in the opulence of relaxation, here are some suggestions of things to do in Dullstroom to ensure you enjoy your time there...

.

  1. Eat, eat, and eat some more!
  2. Tasting the local tipple
  3. Casting and catching
  4. Unwind at the spa
  5. And lastly, shopping…

Dullstroom may be small, but there are plenty of options for those that are interested in delicious fare. Art of Food has to be my absolute favourite though. There is no set menu, and the wine list comes in the form of a wine rack where you grab your own selection. Each dish is carefully crafted from fresh produce available in the surrounds, but the resulting magic on the plate has had me going back for more.

Whether you enjoy whiskey or whisky, Dullstroom’s own Wild about Whisky is the ideal spot to indulge in your favourite single malt or even experiment with some Asian-inspired liquor. The adjacent whisky store is great to browse through too!

For those that prefer beer, Anvil Ale brews its own ales, craft beers and the like right in Dullstroom. Grab some traditional fare, chat to the brewers on site and take a view into the brewery through its windows, all the while sitting under the big, leafy trees on the doorstep.

Naturally, one of the biggest drawcards for this area, the trout fishing dams are always stocked. Plenty of travellers come from all over to try their luck at baggin the catch of the day. Most hotels in the area have their own dams, while a few farms are also open to the public. If you’re a first-timer, you’ll also have no trouble finding a local to coach you through the basics of casting.

Is there anything better than kicking off a weekend away with a relaxing massage? The answer is no, and the best spot to visit in Dullstroom is the Amani Spa at Walkersons Estate just outside of town. This small spa is well-equipped and offers a big variety of treatments. Make sure to make a booking beforehand, and if you have the time, pop into the Walkersons Hotel for afternoon tea too.

The main road of Dullstroom is dotted with some of the most darling little galleries, boutique stores and delis. If you’re looking for gifts to take back, or just looking for something to remind you of your time in Dullstroom, you’re likely find it here. Favourites includes Milly’s Trout Store, Senqu or one of the many trout fishing and outdoor stores.

Furniture and antique stores are also sure to catch the eye of the vintage shopper!
