Welcome to Witsand

The small coastal town of Witsand is set at the mouth of the Western Cape’s beautiful Breede River, roughly halfway between the bustle of Cape Town and the gorgeous valleys and lagoons of Knysna. Safe, tranquil beaches provide wonderful opportunities for swimming, walking, and a range of watersports. The area is a Cape Floral Region World Heritage Site and offers wildlife enthusiasts the chance to see unique diversity and a number of endangered animals, including the Cape Mountain Zebra, as well as the rare Blue Crane. Witsand is known as the ‘Whale Nursery of South Africa’, as majestic Southern Right whales come to give birth here between June and November. The Breede River Mouth is known as the best fishing location in the country, with waters abundant in bass and cob which often exceed 50 kilograms.
