Welcome to Riversdale

Tucked between the Langeberg mountain range and the sea, Riversdale is a scenic town on the Agulhas Coastal Plain. The area is renowned for its abundance of indigenous fynbos, with the mountains and surrounding regions offering a vibrant display of rainbow-coloured flowers. The town boasts the Julius Gordon Africana Centre, which houses an impressive collection of art and antiques, including paintings by Thomas Bowler. Notably, CJ Langenhoven spent his final two school years in Riversdale and wrote the poem used in South Africa's apartheid-era national anthem, 'Die Stem', which has been incorporated into the country's official democratic anthem. Charming 19th-century restored houses are embedded into the exquisite mountain scenery. Adventurous activities like 4x4 routes, abseiling by waterfalls, horseback safaris, hang gliding, fishing, and water sports add to the allure of this picturesque town.
