Welcome to Alexander Bay
Resting on the southern bank of the Orange River mouth in the extreme north-west of South Africa, Alexander Bay is part of the breathtaking region known as Little Namaqualand. The seaside town has a fascinating history of diamond mining, and now hosts historic diamond tours. However, the raw, wild and sparse scenery plays host to an abundance of indigenous plants, animals and insects, especially at the wetland on the river mouth, a designated ‘Ramsar Site’ of international importance. The concept of ‘living museum’ of the old town, which is created by its many artefacts of the town’s boom time, adds interest and makes for extraordinary photographic opportunities. Sports and outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a wide range of activities including golf, tennis, squash, fishing, mountain biking, canoeing and hiking.
