Vaal Dam

Sprawling across 320 square kilometres and straddling the borders of three provinces, the vast Vaal Dam is located roughly within an hour’s drive of Johannesburg, making it a convenient playground for the city’s residents and visitors. The dam and its lush surrounds provide a peaceful, tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city. It offers a host of water-based recreational activities including: swimming, fishing, motor boating, jet skiing and water skiing. It also plays host to several popular annual aquatic events, including Keelboat Week, the Bayshore 200 kilometre jet ski race, and the famous ‘Round the Island’ yacht race, in which hundreds of yachts participate.
