Fort Beaufort

South Africa

Welcome to Fort Beaufort

Situated in the heart of the Katriver Valley in the Amatole District of South Africa's Eastern Cape, Fort Beaufort is a historic town offering visitors magnificent nature and interesting heritage. Historical monuments include the Martello Tower, a national monument constructed in 1839, crowned by a cannon which rotates 360 degrees, one of only two in the world (the other is in Canada). However, the scenery and wildlife here provide the town’s greatest drawcards. The area is blessed with rivers, waterfalls, forests, ravines and myriad breathtaking trails. Visitors can hike the majestic Amatola Mountain, or visit the Amakhala Game Reserve, Bushman Sands Game Reserve and Shamwari Game Reserve nearby. Fort Fordyce Nature Reserve, just 25 kilometres from Fort Beaufort, allows visitors to view the game from horseback and offers excellent bass fishing.
