Welcome to Poivre Island
Poivre Island, part of the Outer Islands of the Seychelles, lies in the Amirante group about 270 kilometres southwest of Mahé. Shallow turquoise lagoons and extensive sandbanks surround the low-lying coral island. Once a coconut plantation during the French colonial era, it retains traces of stone structures and old pathways. Its surrounding waters support rich marine life, including sea turtles, reef fish, and occasional dolphins, making it a site for small-scale eco-tourism. Anglers visit for catch-and-release fly-fishing, particularly between October and April, when conditions are calm. Birdwatchers observe migratory waders and resident seabirds along the shores. Access is by boat or small aircraft, creating a sense of isolation that supports its role as a nature-focused destination within the Seychelles’ marine protected areas.
