About Ugab River Gate
The Ugab River Gate in Namibia’s Skeleton Coast National Park marks the point at which land access to the park is restricted to the public. Loose sand in the northern half of the reserve poses a problem for land vehicles and because of the area’s remoteness, getting stuck can be a life-threatening situation. Consequently, the northern part of the National Park can only be accessed by air and the Ugab River Gate is adorned with a skull and crossbow sign, warning visitors not to venture past this point.
