La Possession

Situated on the northwestern coastline of the Reunion island, La Possession is a commune sandwiched between the town of La Port and the island's bustling capital of Saint-Denis. The area is best known for its spectacular waterfalls, tropical sandy beaches and its enormous volcanic caldera, which features excellent hiking trails and a number of remote little villages. Don't miss the Chemin Cremont, a basalt cobblestone walking trail that dates back to the 1700s and links La Possession with the upland village of Saint-Bernard. Nature and wildlife enthusiasts should never skip the Reunion National Park, the Cirque de Mafate caldera - also known as the Mafate - known for its beautiful panoramic views from the caldera's edge. The waters off La Possession are teeming with marine life, and visitors are encouraged to go snorkelling or scuba diving for a close encounter.
