Rusizi District

Rwanda’s beautiful Rusizi District is situated in the Western Province of the country and is known for its exquisite natural beauty. Encompassing half of the Nyungwe Forest National Park, the stunning Lake Kivu at the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, and some wonderful traditional villages, the district is an idyllic destination from which to explore. Cyangugu, the district capital, looks over the water towards the Congo’s Bukavu and offers a relaxing location from which to best enjoy the water and buy supplies for excursions in the park. The Nyungwe Forest National Park is an enormous, magnificent rainforest, with a list of incredible experiences on offer, including breathtaking hiking, monkey tracking, canopy walking and bird watching. Nyungwe is particularly known for its diversity of bird and monkey species.
