Cirque de Mafate

Set within a spectacularly rugged volcanic landscape and enclosed by dramatic cliffs, the Cirque Mafate is a caldera formed by the collapse of the Piton des Neiges shield volcano. Cirque Mafate is one of three cirques on Reunion, and the only way to reach this remote cirque is to venture along one of the many magnificent hiking trails or by helicopter. Cirque Mafate is a hiker’s paradise featuring lush rainforests, beautiful volcanoes, and cascading waterfalls.
