Sainte-Marie

Located in the north of Reunion Island, adjacent to the capital of Saint-Denis, Sainte-Marie is a commune and a village. It connects Reunion to the rest of the world as it is home to Reunion’s main airport making it the main transportation centre on the island. Sainte-Marie features a quaint little fishing harbour, a small shopping centre and a brewery within the commune. Must-see sites include: the Cheminee La Mare Monument, a popular attraction for visitors staying in the region; Rivière des Pluies, a magnificent river boasting beautiful inland waterfalls; and the spectacular Piton Plain of Ferns, a hiker’s paradise swathed in beautiful lush vegetation.
