About Don Pedros
Where do we begin to explain and tell all the memories of The Great Mr D ? It seems everyone has a tale to tell so we thought we would let our ladies do the listening and filling in of the story telling tonight. But if we were going to tell you quickly, it all comes back to the great fire of 1891 when the old Madame Z had to flee once more. For where you sitting tonight was the home of the lady who gave her velvet tent to travel to distant shores. For it was this exact house that was left to the most infamous, kind and glamorous of all the great Don's loves. Victoria was all his heart and it was to here, in this first suburb ever established in the Cape that he left this home as a symbol of their fiery love. She too has her tale to tell, how the tent was given away and will forever hold her name - but the main part goes how he never sired a son and that it was his lineage of women that still manage the house today. This in itself is enough to explore, as it was these ladies who bound together to keep his eternal memory alive and to ensure that his story will forever be told.
Converted into a restaurant in the 1990's it has always been the firm favourite of locals, intellectuals and the late night theatre crowds. For locals and lovers, for travellers and gypsies also, listen closely as you will find you probably know The Great Don too…
