Welcome to Karibib
Positioned on the main road between Windhoek and Swakopmund, Karibib is a small town in western Namibia’s Erongo Province that serves as a useful stop for travellers. Mining shaped Karibib from its beginnings in the early 1900s, when copper and gold were extracted at the Karibib Mine. The Karibib Mine was once a significant producer, but large-scale operations have ceased, with marble quarrying and the Navachab Gold Mine, Namibia’s oldest gold mine, continuing nearby. The town lies along the arid Khan River, surrounded by rocky plains, and contains several historic landmarks: Roesemannhaus, a residence built in 1900; Wollhaus, a marble warehouse from the same era; the 1901 Railway Station; the Kaiserbrunnen fountain, built under German colonial rule; and Christ Church, completed in 1910. Shops, cafés, and markets serve locals and travellers, while Karibib’s location provides access to Tsaobis Leopard Nature Park and the Namib Desert.
