Welcome to Ugab River
Forming the border between the West Coast Recreation Area and the Skeleton Coast Park in north-western Namibia, the ephemeral Ugab River only flows above the surface for a few days each year. However, the water pools in certain places, offering a vital resource for several animals and plants. Visitors can look forward to seeing a diversity of antelope as well as desert elephants, hyenas, lions, gemsbok, giraffes, mountain zebras, and the largest group of free-roaming black rhinoceroses on earth. Explore hills, lichen fields, coastal plains, natural springs, fascinating caves, and extraordinary, colourful rock formations. Keep your eye out for wild tobacco and the enormous melons of the ǃnara Bush. There is also an excellent scenic flight on offer, for a more leisurely birds’-eye-view.
