Welcome to Zavala
Zavala, also called Quissico, lies between Chidenguele and Inharrime in Mozambique’s Inhambane Province, overlooking the turquoise waters of Lake Quissico and Lake Munhanze with the Indian Ocean stretching beyond. Elevated above the shoreline, the village is the seat of the Zavala district and a hub for traditional music, hosting an annual drum and timbila festival that attracts performers and visitors from across the region. The lakes provide a playground for water sports, including kayaking, kitesurfing, parasailing, and canoeing, while anglers seek kingfish, grunter, and other species. Boat excursions toward Inharrime reveal a landscape rich in birdlife and unspoiled beauty. Just offshore, the largely unexplored Manta Reef presents a rare diving experience, teeming with marine life.
