Khumib River

The ephemeral Khumib River is situated in north-western Namibia’s Kunene Region, originating near the Orupembe and flowing westwards to the Skeleton Coast and the Namib Desert. Surrounded by otherworldly rocky plains, dramatic canyons, and mirror-like saltpans, the river, and its environment are unique, and a phenomenal place to lose oneself in nature. During the rainy seasons (November and February), the river does carry water, sometimes reaching all the way to the Atlantic. Visitors to the area can enjoy guided safaris, bird-watching tours, and expeditions to the shipwrecks just off the coast.
