Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park

Kenya

Welcome to Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park

Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park, nestled in the scenic landscapes of Kenya, is named after the prominent mountain that anchors it. Rising to an elevation of 2,145 meters (7,037 ft), the rugged peak, known as "Ol Donyo Sabuk" (meaning "large mountain" in Maasai) and also referred to as "Mountain of the Buffalo" by the local Kamba community, dominates the surrounding plains. Its well-forested slopes provide habitat for over 45 bird species. From the summit, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views encompassing Mount Kenya, Mount Kilimanjaro, the city of Nairobi, and the expansive lowlands. An ideal day trip from Nairobi, the park offers opportunities to encounter diverse wildlife, including baboons, Colobus monkeys, bushbuck, duiker, and leopards. While black rhinoceros are not present, the park boasts a significant buffalo population. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities such as camping, game viewing, and mountain climbing (with a single designated hiking route to the summit, taking approximately 3 hours). Beyond the mountain itself, the park also features the picturesque Fourteen Falls on the Athi River and the historical grave of Lord William Northrup McMillan, an American settler from the early 20th century.
