National Heroes' Acre

Harare, Zimbabwe

About National Heroes' Acre

Overlooking Harare, the National Heroes' Acre is a national monument and burial ground honouring Zimbabwe’s fallen liberation war heroes and others recognised for their distinguished service to the nation. Constructed with North Korean assistance, the site features striking socialist-realist architecture, including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with a bronze statue of three guerrilla fighters, and a towering Eternal Flame symbolising Zimbabwean independence. The monument also includes a museum chronicling Zimbabwe’s struggle for independence. Surrounded by peaceful gardens and commanding panoramic views of the capital, it is both a place of solemn remembrance and national pride.
