About Khami Ruins

Khami Ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located west of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, is a complex of terraced stone platforms built by the Torwa State between the 15th and 17th centuries. What makes Khami unique is its highly decorated dry-stone walls, crafted from local granite without mortar, symbolising prestige and power rather than defence. Travellers can explore the site’s remarkable platforms, including the Main Platform, once the royal residence, the Cross Platform with its mysterious Dominican Cross, and the Precipice Platform boasting Zimbabwe’s longest check-decorated wall. Visitors can wander scenic paths, admire panoramic views from the hill complex, and gain deeper insight into the site’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage at the onsite museum.
