About Wild Frontiers Katwe Salt Mines

Wild Frontiers Katwe Salt Mines are situated adjacent to Queen Elizabeth National Park, on one of over 50 crater lakes found in the area. Katwe Lake formed as a result of volcanic eruption and spans 9 km. Katwe provides most of Uganda’s salt used in cooking, preserving food and hides, and dying clothes. Visitors can watch salt miners carry out their daily activities and listen to the many stories of their work and lives in the mine.
