About Klaarstroom

Set at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains at the dramatic Great Karoo entrance to Meiringspoort, the small village of Klaarstroom was established in the mid-19th century. With its name meaning 'clear stream,' Klaarstroom's waterways served as a rest stop for Karoo farmers en route to Mossel Bay, where they washed their wool in the pristine mountain stream.Outdoor adventure abounds: anglers will love the bi-annual Carp Derby at the Stompdrift Dam, hikers can traverse breathtaking wild trails, and families will enjoy swimming at the Meiringspoort Waterfall and Pool. Make sure to visit the famous Karoo National Park, only 120 north, to see an incredible variety of animals, and indulge in deliciously fresh food at the weekly Saturday market in neighbouring Prince Albert.
