Tzaneen Dam

The dam, formerly known as the Fanie Botha Dam, is situated just outside Tzaneen on the Groot Letaba River, surrounded by a nature reserve. Accessible through fruit plantations, the dam is a haven for anglers, bird watchers, and water sports enthusiasts. Tropical weather fosters the growth of mangos, bananas, and other fruits in the area. Boasting over 350 bird species, the dam offers unparalleled birding experiences. The diverse habitats below the dam wall attract species like yellow warbler and red-collared widowbird. Notably, hippos inhabit the dam, and there are suggestions of crocodiles in the shallow waters.
